W Tennis Announces 2017-18 Schedule
August 17, 2017 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Preparing for her second season at the helm of the program, head coach Alison Ojeda and the Vols announced the 2017-18 women's tennis schedule Thursday.
Tennessee will begin the fall with their annual trip to the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., on Sept. 22-24. UT will then travel to Murfreesboro where Middle Tennessee State will host the Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Oct. 12-15.
The Volunteers will close out the fall by hosting Ohio State, Arizona State and Wake Forest at the annual Tennessee Fall Invite on Oct. 27-29.
UT faces a tough spring slate with 13 teams finishing last season in the final ITA rankings, in which the Vols finished 24th. The non-conference matches are highlighted by contests versus William & Mary, Indiana, Georgia State and NC State, who finished last season ranked No. 26.
Tennessee will face a stout conference schedule, as the SEC had 13 teams in the final rankings, including three teams in the top 10 and the 2017 national champion Florida Gators, who will travel to Knoxville for a Sunday afternoon match on March 18.
Once the regular season is complete, the Volunteers will host the SEC Championships from April 18-22 at Barksdale Stadium. Tennessee last hosted the tournament in 2011, when the team advanced to the championship match.
UT returns four players from last year's team: Sadie Hammond, Gabby Schuck, Ariadna Riley and Johanna Silva. The Vols added three newcomers during the offseason in Baylor transfer Elizabeth Profit along with freshmen Chelsea Sawyer and Tenika McGiffin.
