June 27, 2017 | Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Tennessee soccer graduate Hannah Wilkinson has been named the school's nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Wilkinson finished her Tennessee playing career in November, collecting first-team All-SEC and NSCAA honors her final year. The forward from Whangarei, New Zealand, led the Vols with a season-high 11 goals, 10 assists and 32 points. On the soccer world stage, she has represented New Zealand in senior competition since 2010 and has played in the last two Olympics and FIFA Women's World Cups.
The NCAA Woman of the Year has been given to the top graduating female athlete who excelled in academics, athletics, service and leadership during their collegiate careers since 1991. Three Tennessee student-athletes have previously received the honor: Catherine Byrne (diving, 1992), Lauryn McCalley (diving, 2005) and Nicky Anosike (basketball, 2008).
A record-number 543 student-athletes were nominated for the 2017 award, and Wilkinson joins 84 soccer players on the list. Thirty honorees will be chosen from the list -- 10 from each of the three NCAA divisions -- and three finalists from each division will be chosen from the groups of 10.
The NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced Oct. 22 in Indianapolis.
