May 24, 2017 | Women's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. -- Despite a late comeback, Tennessee senior Brittany Lindl fell short to Baylor's Blair Shankle, 6-2, 6-4, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the Dan Magill Complex on Wednesday.
The match went back-and-forth at the beginning, with Lindl facing a 3-2 deficit, but Shankle gained momentum and won the final three games to take the first set, 6-2.
Lindl quickly took the first two games of the second set, but Shankle fought back to regain a 4-2 lead. Lindl wasn't finished, though, winning consecutive games on a hold and break to pull even at 4-4. Shankle broke serve and then held to seal the match with a 6-4 second set.
Lindl, who is currently ranked 42nd in singles, finished the season 17 wins on the season, including seven ranked victories. She garnered All-SEC Second Team honors and the ITA Ohio Valley Region's Most Improved Senior Award.
This concludes the 2016-17 season for the Volunteers. For the most up-to-date information about the Tennessee women's tennis program, follow @Vol_WTennis on Twitter.
