COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Tennessee track and field will open competition in the 2017 SEC Outdoor Championship on Thursday. The meet is one of the best in the world as it features 23 ranked teams competing over three days at Sheila & Morris Cregger Track on the campus of South Carolina.
The Vols open competition on Thursday as Maya Neal competes in the heptathlon starting at 10:30 a.m. The final events on Friday include the men's and women's hammer throw featuring Tennessee school record holders Cameron Brown on the men's side (1 p.m.) and Stamatia Scarvelis on the women's side (4 p.m.).
Friday's action picks up at 11:30 a.m. with the final three events of the heptathlon. Friday's field events also feature Cassie Wertman and Scarvelis in the women's shot put final and Darryl Sullivan in the men's high jump final. Fans can watch a live stream of Friday's action beginning at 6:25 p.m. ET and will feature the prelims events for running. Zach Long, Drew Kelley and Adam Johnston will be the first Vols on the track competing at 7:10 p.m. Christian Coleman will lead the men's and women's teams in the 100m competition, which begins at 8:45 p.m.
Saturday's action begins at 1:30 p.m. for the Vols as Scarvelis and Tamia Crockett compete in the discus competition. The live stream of Saturday's action begins at 3:10 p.m. ET as the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams begin action. Saturday consists of finals in all of the running events including the men's 100m (4:35 p.m.) and 200m (5:35 p.m.) competitions which will feature Coleman if he qualifies through the prelims on Thursday and Friday.
Friday's and Saturday's streams will be available on SEC Network + (Online). Dwight Stones will handle play-by-play duties with Larry Rawson and Jill Montgomery serving as the analysts. John Anderson is the on-field host and reporter. The broadcast will air on television on Wednesday May 17 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Last Time Out
Tennessee track & field wrapped up the regular season this past Saturday by hosting the Tennessee Challenge at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium. The rain-soaked meet featured eight event wins for the Vols.
Candice Butler and Savannah Marlow took first and second place in the hammer throw. Butler posted a mark of 57.55m (188-10) while Marlow had a throw of 53.84m (176-8) to take second place with the second-best throw of her career.
Matthew Zajac took third place as he set a new personal best in the hammer throw. Zajac recorded a throw of 61.51m (201-10) to move to ninth on the school's all-time record book in the hammer throw.
Mustaqeem Williams opened his outdoor season in the individual events by posting a 200m time of 21.44 (-0.3). Williams finished in second place, but topped two Olympians.
Zach Long won the 1500m race as he posted a time of 3:48.99. Brad Swiney and Wesley Robinson were both competing in their first career 1500m race and they finished third and fifth. Swiney posted a mark of 3:59.96 while Robinson crossed the line in 4:01.28. Andre Hillsman rounded out the crew with a seventh place finish in a time of 4:02.50.
Megan Murray, competing unattached, won the women's 3000m race with a time of 10:21.04. Peigthon Meske claimed third in the race with a mark of 10:41.62 and Cassidy Giles set a personal record as she finished in fifth with a time of 10:46.38.
Brielyn Rogers recorded her best triple jump of the season as the Vols claimed the top three spots in the competition. Rogers leaped 12.42m (40-9) while LaChyna Roe took second with a mark of 12.14m (39-10). Rebecka Miranda rounded out the group with a jump of 11.69m (38-4.25).
