April 22, 2017 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Tennessee allowed just four hits against No. 20-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday, but the Aggies took advantage of an early error and scoring opportunity to come out on top, 3-1, at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
With the loss, Tennessee now stands at 19-17, 4-13 SEC while Texas A&M moves to 28-12, 10-7 SEC on the year.
Making his fourth start of the season, freshman Garrett Stallings went a career-long 7.0 innings in the loss. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits.
Freshman Luc Lipcius led UT's offense with a 2-for-4 effort in his first start in right field since the Vols' season opener. Senior Matt Waldren (1-for-2) provided UT with its lone RBI double in the second inning.
After the Aggies took advantage of a Tennessee error and plated a quick run in the first, an RBI double by Waldren tied things up at 1-1 in the second.
Texas A&M battled back to score one in the third and held its 2-1 lead until the seventh, when shortstop Austin Homan drove an RBI single up the middle to give TAMU its 3-1 advantage.
Righty Will Neely entered in relief of Stallings in the eighth and threw 1.0 scoreless inning, including a strikeout to strand an Aggies runner at second base.
