Clemson Invitational: Day 1

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Tennessee had a successful first day at the Clemson invitational with the 1V8+ besting #18 Louisville by nearly four seconds in their final race of the day.
To start the day Tennessee's 1V8+ beat out Gonzaga and Clemson to finish fifth with a time of 6:37.5. Fifth-ranked Texas won the heat with a time of 6:17.4 and was followed by #20 Indiana (6:24.0), #15 Syracuse (6:28.0) and Columbia (6:36.5).
The Vols 2V8+ placed fourth, making it down the course with a time of 6:37.2 to finish ahead of Gonzaga, Columbia and Clemson. Texas placed first in the heat with a time of 6:24.1. Indiana and Syracuse rounded out the top three with times of 6:30.1 and 6:30.7.
Tennessee's 1V4+ posted a fifth place finish, beating out Indiana and Clemson with a time of 7:35.8. Texas took first in the heat with a time of 7:10.2. Columbia finished second with a time of 7:21.1, Gonzaga took third at 7:23.0 and Syracuse was fourth at 7:24.5.
The Vols 2V4+ "B" finished the course in 7:56.9, 16 seconds behind sixth place Cornell. Ohio State won that heat with a time of 7:09.4, followed by Louisville, Pennsylvania, and Navy.
In the final race of the morning session, Tennessee's 2V4+ "A" beat out UCF by 11 seconds to finish fifth with a time of 7:36.5. Texas won the heat with a time of 7:15.5. Clemson, Gonzaga and Syracuse rounded out the top four.
In the afternoon session, the Vols 2V4+ A was the first to take to the water, finishing fifth ahead of UCF with a time of 7:40.7. Ohio State won the heat with a time of 7:08.7, followed by Syracuse, Pennsylvania and UCLA.
Tennessee's 2V4+ B finished seventh, 13 seconds behind sixth place Navy with a time of 8:03.0. Virginia's 2V4+ won the heat with a time of 7:22.8. Duke, Oklahoma, Clemson and Gonzaga rounded out the competition, placing second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
The 1V4+ made it down the course in 7:32.6, besting Clemson by just under three seconds. Ohio State won the heat with a time of 7:07.1. Rounding out the rest of the field in order of finish were Louisville, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Syracuse.
Tennessee's 2V8+ took fifth, besting Clemson and Minnesota with a time of 6:43.9. Ohio won the heat with a time of 6:29.6, followed by Syracuse, Louisville, and Pennsylvania.
The Vols ended the day on a high note with the 1V8+ taking third with a time of 6:33.4, nearly four seconds ahead of #18 Louisville who finished fifth behind Pennsylvania. Fourth-ranked Ohio State won the heat with a time of 6:19.4 and #15 Syracuse took second. Clemson and Minnesota rounded out the competition at sixth and seventh.
