SDCC DAY 2: 1V8+ Takes Second in Cal Cup

SAN DIEGO, CALI. -- Tennessee finished strong on day two of the San Diego Crew Classic, taking second and fourth in the Grand Finals of the Women’s Collegiate Cal Cup and Women’s Collegiate 2V8+.
The 1V8+ took second, finishing behind Stanford. Jennifer Davis led the crew of Anneta Kyridou, Kirsten Girard, Aja List, Chandler Frumin, Brenna Randall, Natalie Tavares, Pari Baker and Annie Pelic down the course in a time of 6:40.184. In a race separated by less than 15 seconds, the Vols beat out SDSU, George Washington, Loyola Marymount, and Sacramento State.
Guided by Taylor Upson, Tennessee’s 2V8+ crew of Mikayla Dutton, Katie Porter, Gina Michael, Channing Bearden, Nicole Burnett, Amalia Tsiavou, Lauren Higdon and Katherine Pearson took fourth in the Women’s Collegiate 2V8+ Grand Finals, finishing the course in 6:47.043. The University of Texas at Austin took first with a time of 6:35.151, followed by the University of Wisconsin and Washington State. USC and UCLA rounded out the competition in fifth and sixth place respectively.
Iman Woodyard led the 1V4+ of Rebecca Caruso, Nicole Chojnacky, Alex Dawson and Kristen Freeman to a first place finish in the Women’s Collegiate Varsity 4+ Petite Final, besting second place Sacramento State by nearly ten seconds with a time of 7:38.911. SDSU, UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary’s made up the rest of the field.
Tennessee’s 2V4+ rounded out the day for the Vols, taking second behind UCLA in the finals only Women’s Collegiate 4+B event with a time of 7:46.721. Coxed by Jenna McGrath, Tennessee's crew of Katie Lance, Jessica Magnoli, Loran Grant, and Jesselyn Voysey finished ahead of Sacramento State, SDSU, Southern Methodist and UC Santa Barbara.
The Vols return to action Saturday with the Big 12 Double Dual in Oak Ridge where they will face off against West Virginia, Old Dominion and Alabama.
