SDCC Day 1: Two Boats Advance to Grand Finals

SAN DIEGO, CALI. -- On day one of the San Diego Crew Classic, Tennessee advanced both varsity eight boats to the Grand Finals to be held on Sunday, with the 1V8+ taking first and the 2V8 finishing second in their respective races.
The 1V8+ started the day for the Vols, posting a time of 6:50.685 to finish first ahead of Loyola Marymount, George Washington, Saint Joseph's, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara in Heat B of the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ Cal Cup. They will take on Stanford, SDSU, Loyola Marymount, George Washington, and Sacramento State in the Grand Finals tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
The 2V8+ made it down the course in 6:35.057, placing second in Heat A of the Women's Collegiate Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Division. Finishing seven and a half seconds behind University of Texas at Austin, Tennessee beat out San Diego, Saint Mary's and Southern Methodist to advance to the Grand Finals tomorrow at 12:52 p.m. ET.
In Heat A of the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup, the 1V4+ finished third behind the University of Texas at Austin and San Diego with a time of 7:43:358. They placed ahead of UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara and will compete in the Petite Finals tomorrow at 11:56 a.m. ET.
Tennessee's 2V4+ will also compete tomorrow in the finals only Collegiate 4+ B event at 3:04 p.m. ET. They will match up against USC, UCLA, Sacramento State, SDSU, Southern Methodist and UC Santa Barbara.
