Q&A With Rowing Seniors
March 31, 2017 | Rowing
Tennessee Rowing has four athletes entering their final season. Chandler Frumin, Natalie Tavares, Taylor Upson, and Jesselyn Voysey joined us earlier this month to discuss their time at UT and relay some fun facts about themselves.
Chandler Frumin
Frumin, a sport management major from Dallas, Texas, will be graduating in May after completing her degree in just three years. In 2016 she took first in the 2X with partner Mikayla Dutton at the Head of the Hooch Regatta, and she rowed in the seventh seat in the 1V8+ that took third in the Big 12 Conference Championship with a time of 6:47.173. After graduation she plans to pursue a masters in sports management at the University of Texas at Austin.

What superhero power would you choose? Teleportation
If you could have dinner with any 3 people (living or dead), who would you pick? Jeb Bush, Megan Rapinoe, Kate McKinnon
Favorite thing about UT: I have loved getting to know all of the different people and groups involved at UT. From athletics, to student government, to the Sport Management cohort, everyone I've met has brought something unique to my experience as a Vol. Coming to school at Tennessee and being a student-athlete has allowed me to grow as an individual, gain confidence, and pinpoint my passions.
Natalie Tavares
Natalie Taveres, a senior from Fonthill, Ontario, is majoring in supply chain management. Last season she helped the 1V8+ secure third place finishes in both the grand finals of the San Diego Crew Classic and the Big 12 Championship.

Taylor Upson
Upson is a public relations major from Winter Garden, Fla. Named to the 2016 Big 12 All-Conference Team, she guided the 1V8+ to a third place finish and a spot on the podium with a time of 6:47.173 in the grand finals of the Big 12 Conference Championship. Upson also coxed the V4+ Championship Race at the 2016 Head of the Charles Regatta when the team posted a fifth place finish, third among universities. After graduation she plans on enjoying a lengthy vacation.
Fun Fact: I was born in Canada and lived there for half of my life. I used to be a figure skater and was convinced I was going to go to the Olympics until I realized I wasn't very good.
One item on your bucket list: Write a book
You're stranded on an island. Who's the one teammate you'd select to accompany you and the one item you'd bring: I would bring Jesselyn because she's probably the most prepared to survive in the wilderness. We would probably bring something stupid like a coffeemaker/ endless supply of coffee because neither of us can function without coffee.
Favorite thing about UT: My favorite thing about UT is the fall here because all the leaves are changing colors, and it's very beautiful. I also love how obsessed Knoxville is with coffee shops because I can't live without coffee.
Jesselyn Voysey
Voysey, a journalism and electronic media major from Yorba Linda, Cali., will be graduating in May after two years at the University of Tennessee. Prior to coming to Tennessee she received an A.A. degree from Orange Coast College in California. Voysey rowed in the sixth seat of the 2V8+ that earned a third place finish in the Grand Finals of the 2016 Big 12 Conference Championship and occupied the stroke seat in the 1V4+ that won the petite final at the 2016 San Diego Crew Classic.
