MGOLF CENTRAL: 3M Augusta Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee men's golf team will play its final regular-season final tournament before the SEC Championship this week as the Vols head to Augusta, Georgia, to compete in the 39th annual 3M Augusta Invitational from April 1-2 at Forest Hills Golf Club.

Augusta University is the host school for this weekend's tournament. The 3M Augusta Invitational will be played on the par 72, 7,005-yard course at Forest Hills Golf Club. The first and second rounds will be played on Saturday with a shotgun start for all 36 holes at 8:30 a.m. ET. Sunday's final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET from the first and 10th tees.
This year's 15 participating teams include Wake Forest, Illinois, Oklahoma, Georgia, Houston, Augusta, New Mexico, UCF, Tennessee, Georgia State, Virginia Tech, UAB, Army, Mercer and South Carolina. Six teams (No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 11 Illinois, No. 14 Oklahoma, No. 20 Georgia, No. 48 Houston, No. 50 Augusta) are ranked in the Golfstat top 50.
There are six players ranked in Golfweek's top 100. Wake Forest features No. 3-ranked Will Zaltoris and No. 50 Paul McBride. Oklahoma has No. 27 Max McGreevy and No. 47 Grant Hirshman. Illinois' Nick Hardy is No. 7 and Georgia's Grayson Sigg is No. 15.
Tennessee's five-man team this week consists of freshman Rhys Nevin, junior Lorenzo Scalise, redshirt freshman Nolan Ray, senior Juan Carlos Serrano and freshman Jake Meenhorst. The Vols will tee off on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. ET. Nevin and Scalise will start at the 12th tee. Ray will begin at the 13th and Serrano will begin at the 14th. Meenhorst start at the 15th.
The Vols are coming off their second team win of the season. UT won the Kingsmill Intercollegiate on March 21, besting Penn State by a single stroke with a 10-over 850. Ray finished fourth at even-par 210 and garnered SEC Men's Freshman Golfer of the Week honors for his performance.

- Tennessee finished seventh in this event in 2016 at 4-over 868. VFL Chad Merzbacher tied for second place at 9-under 207
- Illinois is the defending 3M Augusta Invitational champion as the Illini won in 2016 with a team score of 27-under 837.
- Tennessee was the runner-up in the 3M Augusta Invitational in 2011.
- VFL David Skinns won the individual title for Tennessee in 2002 with a score of 66-67-70--203 (-13).
- VFL Stuart Smith won the individual title in 1981 with a score of 75-69-64--208 (-8).
