OAK RIDGE, TENN. -- Tennessee Rowing will kick off its spring season at the 6th Annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational (ORCI) on March 11-12 at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
This is the Vols third appearance at this regatta, entry to which is by invitation from the University of Louisville women's rowing program. Other teams competing include Clemson, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Tulsa, Virginia and West Virginia.
Tennessee will begin the weekend racing at 9:14 AM Saturday in the V8+, followed by the V4+ at 9:22 AM. The first Novice 8+ and second Novice 8+ will race at 9:30 AM, the 2V8+ will race at 9:38 AM and the 2V4+ will race at 9:46 AM. All morning session races will be against Tulsa, Minnesota and Miami.
In the afternoon session, the Vols will take on Michigan, Notre Dame and Kansas beginning with the V8+ at 4:06 PM followed by the V4+ at 4:14 PM. The first Novice 8+ will race at 4:22 PM, the 2V8+ begins at 4:30 PM. The 2V4+ will race at 4:38 PM, and Tennessee will finish the day with the second Novice 8+ at 5:26 PM.
On Sunday, the Vols will begin racing at 9:14 AM in the V8+, followed by the V4+ at 9:22 AM. The first Novice 8+ will race at 9:30 AM, the 2V8+ will race at 9:38 AM and the 2V4+ will begin at 9:46 AM. Tennessee's final race of the day will be the second Novice 8+ at 10:26 AM.
The Vols are coming off a fall season highlighted by first place finishes at Head of the Hooch in the Women's Championship 2X and 4+ and the Secret City Head Race in both V8+ and Novice 8+. The V4+ also posted a fifth place finish at the Head of the Charles with a time of 19:41.826, the third fastest time among universities.
At the conclusion of the ORCI, Tennessee will return to campus for their spring break training camp followed by an exhibition matchup with Indiana University on Sunday, March 19 in Oak Ridge.
