Men's Tennis Loses at Duke, 4-0

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Tennessee men's tennis team lost the doubles point and couple not turn the tide in singles Sunday in a 4-0 loss to Duke at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
The Vols (7-3) lost the doubles point, but Duke turned the tide midway through the first set of singles and eventually won three straight-set matches to clinch.
"As we're developing as a team, we have to work on that level of consistency, coming out and playing tough, competitive tennis in your game style," Tennessee head coach Sam Winterbotham said. "Today was a great opportunity for us to continue doing that. Unfortunately, we didn't get that across from top to bottom. In our sport, every point matters."
Sophomore Srdjan Jakovljevic fell to Spencer Furman on court 4, Junior Luis Valero lost to No. 116 Nick Stachowiak on court 2 and freshman Luca Wiedenmann lost in the clinching match 6-2, 6-3 on court 6.
Sophomore Timo Stodder had three match points on court 1, leading Catalin Mateas 7-6, 5-2 when the match was abandoned. Tennessee was also in position to put points on the other two courts. Freshman Scott Jones has won the first set on court 3, and though he lost the first set, senior Jack Schipanski was up a break in the second at 4-3 on court 5.
Tennessee was on both sides of a shutout during the weekend, having defeated Tulsa 7-0 on Friday at home. Sunday's match concludes the informal "indoor season" for the Vols, who now Wake Forest and Lipscomb outdoors on Feb. 25.
