Lady Vol Hoops Report (2/1/17)
February 01, 2017 | Women's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee women’s basketball coach Holly Warlick met with the media Wednesday, as the Lady Vols prepare for the Live Pink, Bleed Orange game against LSU on Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. The game tips off at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast online through SECN+ and WatchESPN.
The #RV/25 Lady Vols (14-7, 5-3 SEC) enter the contest on a three-game winning streak, including a 76-74 victory over No. 4 South Carolina on the road on Monday night. LSU (15-6, 4-4 SEC) is also coming off a win after beating Arkansas, 53-46, at home on Sunday.
Here are some of Warlick's thoughts heading into the game.
Head Coach Holly Warlick Quotes
(On the Live Pink, Bleed Orange game)
“Tomorrow is our Live Pink, Bleed Orange game, and that is special for me because Nikki Caldwell [now LSU Head Coach Nikki Fargas] is here, and we started Champions For A Cause. We will present a check to the UT Cancer Institute for $15,000 (which will in turn go to the UT Breast Health Outreach Program). We have given over $100,000 to them for education and to be an area for people to go get treatments. We are excited about that. The mobile unit is going to be outside doing mammograms. It would be a great opportunity to go. We are now raising money to get a new mammography mobile unit. If you want to donate, go to our website at ChampionsForACause.org.”
(On how LSU has improved since last year)
“First off, they have more players and they’re older. Raigyne Moncrief was out half of last year and that hurt them. They’re older and more mature, and they know the system better. Chloe Jackson is having a heck of a year, and that’s helped. They’re getting everybody in positions where they need people to play.”
(On Jaime Nared earning Co-SEC Player of the Week)
“It’s awesome. I am really proud of Jaime. She has had to come up with some big plays the last two games. She has been the most consistent for us, even in practice. She doesn’t take a possession off, and I think you are seeing the result of a great summer of hitting practice head on. She is a tough kid. She got up and hit some key free throws for us. I am really proud for her because that is a great honor.”
