Vols Win Season Opener over Air Force, 6-1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team wasted no time getting its first win of the season, taking down Air Force, 6-1, at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Vols (1-0) breezed through doubles, taking the matches on courts 1 and 3 to seal the point and give UT an early 1-0 lead. The success continued in singles, as Tennessee won five of the six matches.
In doubles, sophomore Kim Kermet and freshman Ariadna Riley defeated the duo of Elizabeth Barnickel and Jocelle Rudico, 6-1. The senior tandem of Brittany Lindl and Eve Repic clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Chloe Forlini and TJ Fumagalli.
In singles, freshman Johanna Silva extended her winning streak to three matches, beating Lily Forlini, 6-1, 6-0. Lindl, who's ranked No. 64, downed Elizabeth Barnickel, 6-1, 6-0. Kermet clinched the match for UT with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Nadeen Lieberman.
Tennessee and Air Force chose to play out the remaining singles match. Redshirt freshman Gabby Schuck and sophomore Sadie Hammond both took their matches to give Tennessee the 6-1 win.
The Vols will play their second match of today's doubleheader against Middle Tennessee at 3 p.m.
