Vols Begin Season with Doubleheader Sweep

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team began the spring season 2-0 on Saturday, with wins against Air Force and Middle Tennessee at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Against Air Force, the Vols breezed through doubles, taking the matches on courts 1 and 3 to seal the point and give UT an early 1-0 lead. The success continued in singles, as Tennessee won five of the six matches for a 6-1 win.
UT's momentum rolled over to the second match on the day, as the Vols won the first two matches in doubles again to gain the early advantage. Tennessee then took the first three matches in singles to seal the Vols' second win, 4-0.
In doubles, the senior duo of Brittany Lindl and Eve Repic went 2-0 on the day, defeating Air Force's Chloe Forlini and TJ Fumagalli, 6-3, and Middle Tennessee's Sarah Sediri and Josefina Zehnder, 6-0.
Sophomore Kim Kermet and freshman Ariadna Riley also won both of their matches on the day. The duo downed Elizabeth Barnickel and Jocelle Rudico of Air Force, 6-1, and then clinched the doubles point in the second match with a 6-2 victory over Holly Horsfall and Marta Peris Herrero.
Lindl posted a strong performance in singles, losing only three games in her two matches. She has now won five of her last eight matches.
Sophomore Sadie Hammond was the only other Vol to go 2-0 in singles, as she beat Air Force's Chloe Forlini, 6-2, 7-5, and Middle Tennessee's Lidia Burrows, 6-2, 6-3.
Tennessee will be back in action tomorrow to compete in a doubleheader against Wake Forest (10 a.m.) and Chattanooga (5:30 p.m.) at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
