Women's Tennis Begins Fall at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team is set to begin its 2016 fall season this weekend, competing in the 30th annual Furman Fall Classic Sept. 23-25.
Play will be held at the Mickel Tennis Center, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The tournament includes six singles flights and three for doubles.
The Vols return six players from last year and welcome two newcomers, as head coach Mike Patrick enters his 30th season. The team is also joined by assistant coach and former All-American Alison Ojeda, who returned to her Alma Mater in June after spending six seasons at Baylor.
Last year, sophomore Sadie Hammond defeated Clemson's Theresa Piontek 6-1, 6-2 for the flight two championship, which was part of a seven-match winning streak to begin her career.
The stout draw includes 12 singles players and six doubles teams ranked in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings, including Hammond, who is ranked a career-high 35th in singles to begin the season.
The schedule for the weekend is one singles and two doubles matches on Friday, one round of singles and doubles on Saturday and one round of singles on Sunday. The schedule is subject to change, pending on weather throughout the tournament.
