KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee Athletics Department, in partnership with longtime sponsor DISH, The Pat Summitt Foundation and IMG College-Vol Network, has developed a first-of-its kind community initiative calling on Vol fans to “Get Your Game Face On!”
Designed to bring awareness to the ongoing fight against Alzheimer’s, this “Game Face” fundraiser begins at the Vols’ SEC opener against the Florida Gators on Sept. 24. DISH will provide all 102,455 fans in attendance with custom eye-black stickers featuring the iconic Pat Summitt signature “P” and the branded “Tennessee” wordmark.
“Vol Nation, it’s time to get your game face on against the Gators, and get your game face on against Alzheimer’s,” said Chris Fuller, Tennessee Senior Associate Athletics Director. “This year, we experienced a tragedy in the passing of Tennessee’s own legend, coach Pat Summitt. Our friends at DISH approached us this summer with a goal to meaningfully impact The Pat Summitt Foundation by uniting our fans in the ongoing battle against Alzheimer’s. We hope to see every single Vol fan at the Florida game wear these eye blacks to show their support.”
In appreciation of Neyland Stadium attendees rallying behind Alzheimer’s awareness, DISH will present a check for $102,455 to The Pat Summitt Foundation during a second quarter break next Saturday.
DISH’s gameday donation kicks off fundraising efforts that involve the entire Vol Nation community throughout Tennessee. Beginning next week through the remainder of the football season, or while supplies last, fans can purchase “Get Your Game Face On!” eye-black stickers at a number of retailers across the state, including Alumni Hall, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, HoundDogs, Pilot Food Marts, Sports Seasons and Vol Shop. The eye blacks cost $3.99, with $2 of every purchase going directly to The Pat Summitt Foundation.
DISH’s donation, and all funds raised through “Get Your Game Face On!” eye-black sticker sales, will go toward the development of The Pat Summitt Alzheimer’s Clinic, scheduled to open in December. The Pat Summitt Foundation is creating this clinic in partnership with The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
“We are grateful to DISH and all Vol fans for supporting Pat’s mission of Alzheimer’s awareness, advocacy and research for a cure,” said Patrick Wade, Executive Director of The Pat Summitt Foundation. “If you’re not attending the Florida game at Neyland, we hope you’ll buy our eye blacks ahead of the game to show us that you back Pat. Get your ‘Game Face’ on at tailgate parties, local pubs and from your living rooms by sharing photos on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the hashtags VolsGameFace and DISHCares.”
