Brooks Ends Play at Women's Amateur

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- Rising sophomore Shannon Brooks finished play at the USGA Women's Amateur in the Round-of-32 on Thursday.
To start the tournament, Brooks carded rounds of 69 and 72 to finish the stroke play portion of the championship tied for 21st place (-1). She was one of 64 players to advance to match play.
The Virginia-native then took her Round-of-64 match against Anna Redding, 4 and 2.
In the Round-of-32, Brooks started off strong versus Florida's Maria Torres, winning two of the first four holes played. The duo then battled over the next 12 holes, hitting drives off of the 17th tee box squared up. Brooks parred the 478-yard hole, while Torres birdied it to move to 1 up. Both players recorded par on 18.
Matches will continue throughout the week with a 36-hole final scheduled for Sunday. The U.S. Women's Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
