KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Our soccer countdown continues to roll along today as we get to know a talented young attacking player in sophomore Danielle Marcano.
Need to Know
Marcano enters her second season on Rocky Top looking to make a big impact offensively for the Volunteers. The Buford, Ga., native appeared in 15 games for UT as a true freshman last year, playing 313 total minutes. Her best game came in an 8-0 win over Belmont when she scored two goals and assisted on another. Marcano was a highly-rated recruit coming out of the Greater Atlanta Christian School, where she helped lead the team to a pair of GHSA state titles (2012 & 2014). She was ranked the No. 49 overall recruit in the IMG Academy 150 and was named the unanimous GHSA Class AA Girls Soccer Player of the Year in 2015.
Marcano amassed 70 goals and 27 assists over her prep career and was voted a top 11 player by U.S. Youth Soccer (USYS) two years in a row after helping her club team become a national finalist in 2012 and reach nationals again in 2013. She helped lead her club team to four Tennessee State Cup regional championships as well (2012, 2013, 2014 &2016). Marcano also attended the U.S. U-17 Women's National Team Camp in 2013. Most embarrassing soccer moment: Missing a shot when I was one-on-one with the keeper against Kentucky last season.
Favorite Thing About Tennessee: The closeness of all the athletes and team here at UT.
