KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Next up on our countdown is redshirt senior Jamie Simmons, who is expected to retake the reigns in goal for her final season on Rocky Top.
Need to Know
Simmons transferred to Tennessee prior to the 2014 season after two stellar seasons at UNC Greensboro. She earned second-team All-SoCon honors and was selected to the So-Con All-Freshman team in 2012 after starting all 20 games and posting a 1.05 GAA. Simmons followed her freshman campaign with a sensational sophomore season, posting a 0.77 GAA and a conference-best nine shutouts for the Spartans.
The Houston, Texas native was pressed into action immediately during her junior season at Tennessee due to a season-ending injury to starting keeper Julie Eckel. Simmons exceeded expectations by recording 94 saves, a 1.18 GAA and seven shutouts while helping the Vols reach the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. Her 94 stops ranks sixth and her seven shutouts is tied for eighth in Tennessee single-season history. Simmons redshirted last season with Eckel starting every game after coming back from injury. However, with Eckel graduating, Simmons seems poised to take over the starting role in goal for her redshirt senior season.
