Baker Named CRCA All-Region, Seven Scholar-Athletes

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) named freshman rower Pari Baker to the 2016 Division I All-Region first team and tabbed seven Vols as CRCA Scholar-Athletes.
Baker was one of 13 members of the Region 3 first team as the award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions. Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score.
Baker is the 41st Vol to be honored to the CRCA All-Region team as she capped off a fantastic freshman season which also saw the Mississauga, Ontario native earn Big 12 All-Conference honors. Liz Dickson was the last Vol to be honored by the CRCA as she was named to the All-South Region team in 2014.
In addition to all-region honors the CRCA also announced their scholar-athetes for the 2015-16 school year as Tennessee had seven rowers named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes: sophomore Nicole Chojnacky, sophomore Jennifer Davis, sophomore Chandler Frumin, senior Katie King, senior Harper Lucas, senior Morgan Suffridge and junior Kaitlyn Wallace earned the honors.
Tennessee has now earned 62 CRCA Scholar-Athlete awards since the 2001 season. The seven honorees is tied with the 2001 season for the second most scholar-athlete awards by Tennessee. The most came in 2014 when 12 Vols earned the honor including King, Lucas and Suffridge who all earned the award for the second time this year.
All seven CRCA Scholar-Athlete honorees were previously named to the Big 12 Academic All-Conference first team in May.
The rowers earned selection for the CRCA award by maintaining a career GPA above 3.50 while in their second, third or fourth years of eligibility while competing in 75 percent of the team's competitions in one of the NCAA eligible boats.
