Hammond Falls in Second Round of NCAAs

TULSA, Okla. -- Tennessee freshman Sadie Hammond's run in the NCAA Singles Championships ended Thursday, as she fell to Pepperdine's sixth-ranked Luisa Stefani, 6-0, 6-2, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Stefani, the ITA Rookie of the Year, breezed through the first set, winning 6-0 and taking three deciding points over Hammond.
Hammond broke serve to tie things up at 2-2 in the second set. Stefani responded to break serve and gain a lead that she would hold the rest of the match, as she went on to win the final four games to take the set and match, 6-0, 6-2.
Hammond, the 50th-ranked player in the country, finishes her first season with a 22-18 record in singles, including eight wins against ranked opponents.
