TULSA, Okla. -- Tennessee freshman Sadie Hammond learned who her opponent for the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships will be, as the NCAA released the official draw Tuesday.
Hammond will face Clemson’s Ayan Broomfield, who is ranked 51st in the country, Wednesday to begin the tournament, which will be held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
"It's so exciting to have all the hard work I put in this year pay off for a chance to compete in the NCAA tournament," Hammond said after being selected earlier this month. "It's even more exciting to be able to play as a freshman. It's a great opportunity for me to play against the best players in college tennis, and I'm looking forward to taking advantage of this opportunity.”
Hammond, who is currently ranked 50th in singles, is the first Volunteer to compete in the singles championships for UT since junior Eve Repic in 2014 as a freshman as well.
