Scalise Fires Even Par Round in NCAA Debut

STILLWATER, Okla.-- Sophomore Lorenzo Scalise finished with a even par 72 and is tied for seventh individually after the first round of the NCAA Stillwater Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club Monday.

In his NCAA Regional debut, the Milan, Italy, native fired two birdies--both on par 4 holes--en route to his 72. Scalise sits two stroke behind Iowa State's Nick Voke and UMKC's Antoine Rozner. If results held, Voke and Rozner would enter a playoff to determine who would advance to the NCAA Championships as the low individual not among the top five teams in the Stillwater Regional.

Tennessee carded a 23-over 311 in the opening round and is tied for 10th. The Vols are eight strokes back of fifth place. The top five finishers in the Stillwater Regional advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Chad Merzbacher birdied a team-high three holes in the opening round and finished with a 6-over 78. He ended day one in a tie for 36th.

Michael Nagy opened the regional with a birdie and shot 1-over on the front nine before finishing the round with a 7-over 79. The Manistique, Michigan, native is tied for 44th after the first round.

Freshman Nicklas Mattner posted a 10-over 82 in his NCAA Regional debut and finished the round in a tie for 57th. Jack Smith opened the Stillwater Regional with an 11-over 83 and is tied for 64th.

The Stillwater Regional continues Tuesday morning with the second round. Tennessee will be paired with VCU and Michigan State and tee off from the 10th. Tee times for Tuesday's round are below (all times CT).
