INDIANAPOLIS -- Tennessee graduating senior swimmers Faith Johnson and Amanda Carner earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, the college sports governing body announced.
Johnson and Carner were among only 13 women's swimmers nationwide to be recognized in the scholarship program. Every year, the NCAA awards as many as 174 postgraduate scholarships across all sports, each worth a one-time, non-renewable value of $7,500.
Carner graduated Friday with a degree in accounting, and Johnson will walk Saturday with a degree in kinesiology.
Johnson, a native of High Point, N.C., has been collecting academic awards to wrap up her All-American career at Tennessee. On Wednesday, she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, and last month, she was Tennessee's female finalist in the SEC's H. Boyd McWhorter award program.
In the pool, Johnson was a 19-time All-American and a seven-time SEC champion. She was part of three winning relays at the conference meet as a senior to help Tennessee to a second-place team finish. She was also part of two NCAA championship relay teams as a freshman.
Carner, from Newport News, Va., ended her swimming career as a six-time All-American and owner of three Tennessee school records (200-yard backstroke, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley). She led Tennessee's program-wide improvement in the individual medley, becoming the first UT woman to earn first-team All-America honors in the 400 IM in 26 years when she placed seventh at NCAAsas a junior.
Carner and Johnson are three-time members of both the SEC Academic Honor Roll and the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.
