Rowing Wins Big 12 Boat of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennnessee's Varsity 8+ boat was named Big 12 Boat of the Week the conference office announced on Thursday after Tennessee finished in second place over the weekend.
The squad of Harper Lucas, Kirsten Girard, Pari Baker, McDarragh Minnock, Natalie Tavares, Kathryn Cosgrove, Erin Gibbemeyer, Gina Michael and Nicole Chojnacky earned Boat of the Week honors for the first time since Tennessee joined the Big 12 Conference for rowing prior to the 2014-15 season.
The Vols posted victories over Loyola Marymount, Fordham, Portland and Purdue on Saturday to win Heat C with a time of 6:57.953 and advance to the Grand Finals. The team followed that up with a second place finish in the Grand Finals on Sunday posting a time of 7:19.547. UT outraced Loyola Marymount and San Diego State as well as Big 12 foes Old Dominion and Kansas State on Sunday after fog delayed action on Sunday morning. Miami claimed the Varsity 8+ team championship.
UT's varsity team will be back in action on April 16th and 17th at the Clemson Invitational in South Carolina. On the same day the UT Novice Squad will be in Oak Ridge for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta.
