POSTGAME NOTES
For The Record
- The Orange Team won, 70-63, for the third time in four seasons during the Butch Jones era.
- The win moved the Orange Team ahead in the all-time series, leading the White Team 27-26-3.
Jones Announces Vol Captains
- At halftime, head coach Butch Jones announced full-season captains for the 2016 campaign, naming quarterback Joshua Dobbs, running back Alvin Kamara, defensive back Cameron Sutton and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin as the formal leaders of Team 120.
- This marks the first time Tennessee has named season-long captains since 2011 when Tauren Poole, Austin Johnson and Ben Martin were tabbed with the honor.
Statistical Leaders
- John Kelly led all rushers with 65 yards on 15 attempts and one touchdown.
- Quinten Dormady connected on 10-of-15 attempts for 95 yards and a touchdown.
- Newcomer Jeff George led the receivers with four catches for 28 yards and one touchdown.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Quart'e Sapp racked up nine tackles with one tackle for loss.
- Early enrollee Marquill Osborne had a big spring game, finishing with eight tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Strong Showing From Vol Nation
- 67,027 fans were on hand for the 2016 DISH Orange & White Game, marking the third highest total in UT spring game history.
- In four years of spring games under Butch Jones, the Volunteers have averaged 64,916 fans and have had four of the five highest spring game crowds in UT history.

National Football Foundation Honors Spurrier, Musburger and Others
- Some special awards were presented by the East Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame during a brunch at The Foundry on Saturday.
- Former South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier accepted the Robert R. Neyland Award for his outstanding contributions to intercollegiate athletics.
- The Lindsey Nelson Award was presented to Brent Musburger, one of the most recognized and prominent voices in the history of sports television.
- Marvin West, a former Knoxville News Sentinel editor and longtime employee of the Scripps Howard News Service, received the Distinguished American honor.
- Scott Andrews, Johnathan Mills, Phillip Oglesby and Judge John Weaver were honored with the Distinguished Service Awards for contributions to their local communities.
- Ken Coulter, Steve Matthews and Gary Rankin received Amateur Football Awards for their outstanding careers in the Tennessee high school football ranks.

It's the Circle of Life
- The Vols opened the game with the Circle of Life Drill, pitting Orange and White players against each other.

- Brothers and Vol tight ends Ethan Wolf and Eli Wolf faced off in an exhibition match, with Eli narrowly capturing the win.
First Quarter Highlights
- On the third play of the game, Joshua Dobbs' pass intended for Jason Croom was tipped and intercepted by Todd Kelly Jr., giving the Orange Team an early 10-2 advantage.
- The White Team fired back on their third possession with a 57-yard catch-and-run from Joshua Dobbs to Ethan Wolf.
- John Kelly busted through for a 4-yard score, good for the first touchdown of the afternoon.
- Quinten Dormady hit newcomer Jeff George on a fade route to the corner of the endzone for the game's second touchdown.
- At the end of quarter, the White Team led 26-20.
Second Quarter Highlights
- A long opening drive from the White Team was capped off by a 42-yard field goal from Laszlo Toser.
- On the next two drives, the Orange Swarm forced two-straight three-and-outs.
- The final drive of the half ended on a 30-yard field goal from Holden Foster, giving the White Team a 51-42 lead.
Wide Receivers vs. Defensive Backs
- Between drives, wide receivers and defensive backs participated in 1-on-1 drills.

Dormady and Jancek Tie for the QB Competition
- The quarterbacks competition featured Zac Jancek, Quinten Dormady and Joshua Dobbs. Throw attempts included hitting a moving target, a corner throw, hitting the cross bar, and throwing the ball into a trash can in the corner of the endzone.
- The fifth and final throw was a tribute to Peyton Manning, recreating his famous connection with Marcus Nash in the corner of the endzone, which sealed the game against the Georgia Bulldogs in 1996.
- Jancek and Dormady each connected on the Manning-Nash throw, finshing the contest with nine points and tying for the win.
D-Line vs. O-Line

Defense Dominates the Second Half
- In the first drive of the half, Quinten Dormady floated a pass down the sidline to Preston Williams for 39 yards.
- The Orange Team responded with a goal-line stand, with Rashaan Gaulden making the tackle for a four-yard loss on fourth and goal.
- On the next two drives, the Orange Swarm forced two consecutive three-and-outs, including sacks by Charles Folger and Corey Vereen on third down.
- Gavin Bryant made the game-winning tackle, dropping Jayson Sparks for a two-yard loss on fourth down to end the game.
