Join the Vols in Maui this November
April 12, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Sun, surf and hoops make for an outstanding Thanksgiving vacation on the beautiful island of Maui, and travel packages are now available for fans interested in joining the Tennessee basketball team at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this November.
The nation's premier early-season college basketball tournament features a stellar field in 2016, as the Volunteers join UConn, Georgetown, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Wisconsin and host Chaminade in the eight-team field. Multiple teams in the field are projected to enter the season ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Games take place Nov. 21-23 at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Five-night travel packages include accommodations at the beachfront Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali (Tennessee’s team hotel), checking in on Saturday, Nov. 19, and checking out on Thursday, Nov. 24. Additional nights and room upgrades are available.
Also included in the travel package are tickets for each of Tennessee’s three tournament games, roundtrip shuttle transfers to and from the Lahaina Civic Center for each game, an invitation to an exclusive Tennessee event in Maui, an exclusive Tennessee souvenir, a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses (personalized fitting from a selection of frame offerings) and a Maui Invitational lanyard, credential and ticket holder.
Pricing starts at $2,025 per person. For complete travel package details, click HERE, or call 1-800-591-9198.
Longtime Tennessee fan and Houston, Texas, resident Rick Rose accompanied the Vols to Maui in 2011.
“The trip was extraordinary. It was such a personal, ‘inside’ experience,” Rose said. “As we traveled across the island, walked through the hotel hallways and sat down to eat—with perfect weather in which to enjoy it all—we were able to talk to all the players and future Hall of Fame coaches who were a part of the tournament.
“The atmosphere was peaceful, the people were uplifting and positive, the hotel was five-star and the food was amazing. The most exciting aspect was being able to watch the games up close in a high school gym-type atmosphere. This is a trip I’d love to be a part of again.”
Ticket-only packages without travel accommodations, based on availability, will go on sale in August.
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Rick Barnes, Tennessee looks to build upon the momentum generated by its thrilling run at the SEC Tournament this past March, which included victories over Auburn and in-state rival Vanderbilt.
Returning upperclassmen wings Robert Hubbs III and Detrick Mostella will be joined by a popular and promising group of rising sophomores—including Kyle Alexander, Shembari Phillips and Admiral Schofield—as well as a talented crop of at least five scholarship newcomers.
This November’s trip marks Tennessee’s third all-time appearance at the Maui Invitational, as the Vols also joined the field in 2004 (fourth place) and 2011 (seventh place).
