Freshmen Get Ranked Wins, Vols Fall to A&M

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee freshmen Timo Stodder and Srdjan Jakovljevic earned ranked wins in the top half of the lineup but the Vols lost to No. 10 Texas A&M 5-2 in Sunday's home finale at Barksdale Stadium.
The Vols (11-14, 0-10 SEC) lost the doubles point, and all the singles matches went in straight sets or less. Texas A&M (22-8, 7-4) got three singles wins to clinch the match at 4-0 before the Vol freshmen wrapped up their matches.
Stodder collected his first career top-50 singles win, beating No. 44 Shane Vinsant 6-2, 6-3 on court 2. He went 2-0 on court 2 this weekend. Jakovljevic recorded his team-leading sixth SEC singles win, beating No. 125 Jordi Arconada 6-3, 7-6(3). It was his first career ranked victory.
The Vols have won two of the top three singles matches in four of the last five matches.
"We're getting great production from freshman and a sophomore in the top half of our lineup," Tennessee head coach Sam Winterbotham said. "I can't really ask for more than that. We're beating teams' best players, we need to do a better job four through six. I know we can. I feel like those guys are on the right path, but it's certainly a frustrating road we're all traveling on.
"Now we've got to look forward and have great preparation for Auburn and Florida next weekend, and that's what we'll do."
After winning the doubles point, Texas A&M took an early 2-0 lead when sophomore Preston Touliatos retired with a leg injury in the first set on court 5. Aleksadre Bakshi beat Jack Heslin 6-3, 6-3 on court 6, and 21st-ranked Arthur Rinderknech clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 109 Luis Valero.
