Tennessee falls to 13-15 overall and 6-9 in the SEC after dropping an 84-58 decision at South Carolina on Wednesday night at Colonial Life Arena. The Vols were led by 19 points from Devon Baulkman -- his best scoring performance since scoring 22 against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 22, 2015.
Shembari Phillips scored a season-best 16 points and Armani Moore rounded out UT's double-digit scorers with 10 points.
With the loss, Tennessee falls to 1-10 in true road games this season and 1-13 in all games played away from Knoxville.
Tennessee failed to reach 60 points for just the second time this season (it was held to 57 points at Alabama on Jan. 26).
Making his fifth consecutive start, freshman Shembari Phillips pushed his way into double figure scoring for the second straight game, finishing with a season-best 16 points in 36 minutes of play.
Phillips now has five games of 10-plus points this season and three in his last four games.
Since being promoted to the starting lineup, Phillips is averaging 10.4 points and 32.6 minutes per game.
In Tennessee's 78-69 win over South Carolina on Jan. 23 in Knoxville, the Vols went to the line 32 times and converted 30 of those free throws for a 93.8 percentage.
On Wednesday night Columbia, the Vols attempted just 11 free throws, their fewest since getting to the line just five times in a loss at Alabama on Jan. 26. To make matters worse, Tennessee made just four of those attempts -- good for a season-worst 36.4 free throw percentage.
Tennessee’s starters were Shembari Phillips, Detrick Mostella, Robert Hubbs III, Armani Moore, and Kyle Alexander for the second straight game.
With the exception of Ray Kasongo, every scholarship player on Tennessee's roster has made a start this season.
Seniors Devon Baulkman and Derek Reese were the first Vols off the bench on Wednesday, checking in at the 16:39 mark.
Walk-on and true freshman Brad Woodson recorded his first career points for the Volunteers on Wednesday night when he buried a three from the near the top of the key at the 14:57 mark in the second half.
Woodson played XX minutes on the night -- another season-best.
The Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native has now appeared in six games this season.
With Wednesday's loss, Tennessee falls to 42-25 all-time against South Carolina.
The Gamecocks avenge a 78-69 loss suffered at the hands of the Volunteers on Jan. 23.
Tennessee is now 14-15 all-time in games played in Columbia.
Head coach Rick Barnes falls to 4-5 in games played against South Carolina head coach Frank Martin. Barnes and Martin met six times under the Big 12 banner when the pair were coaching Texas and Kansas State, respectively.
Tennessee is back home on Saturday to play host to Arkansas at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
The Vols will be looking to avenge an 85-67 loss suffered at the hands of the Razorbacks back on Feb. 6 in Fayetteville.
Tennessee is 11-2 all-time against Arkansas in Knoxville, including a 74-69 win over the 19th-ranked Razorbacks last season at Thompson-Boling Arena.
