VFL Morgan To Be Inducted Into SC Football Hall

Greenville, S.C. -- VFL Stanley Morgan will be inducted into the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame in April. The former Vols star will be honored along with former Vols assistant coach Dal Shealy, who coached Tennessee's backfield in 1976.
The South Carolina Football Hall of Fame (SCFHOF) announced their Class of 2016 inductees. This is the fourth annual ceremony for the SCFHOF, and the current class will join the other 16 members on April 21, 2016.
Morgan and Shealy join Jeff Davis and Michael Dean Perry as inductees while Clemson's Deshaun Watson, will be recognized as the Collegiate Player of the Year presented by Hale's Jewelers at this year's ceremony to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Greenville. The ceremony will be hosted by Greenville native entertainer Orlando Jones. Preceding the ceremony will be the Annual Golf or Gun Tournament that is the main fundraiser for the SCFHOF and its Business Connect and Youth Scholarship Programs. The golf tournament will be held at Green Valley Country Club in Traveler's Rest and feature local celebrities and football dignitaries. For those that prefer shooting targets, there is also a sporting clay option at the River Bend Sportsman's Resort in Inman. These events will be held simultaneously. Stanley Morgan was born on February 17, 1955 in Easley, South Carolina, and began his football career at Easley High School. He helped lead Easley High School to a state championship in 1972. After high school, Morgan went on to play college football at the University of Tennessee. While at Tennessee, he set the record for all-purpose yards with 4,642. Morgan was selected in the first round by the New England Patriots. He led the NFL with yards per reception for three consecutive years. Stanley Morgan finished his career with over 10,000 receiving yards. Morgan led the NFL in yards per reception in 1979, 1981, and 1986. He went to four Pro Bowls, and was selected 2nd Team All Pro in 1980 and 1986. Morgan was inducted to the New England Patriots Hall of Fame in 2007, and he was inducted into the Tennessee Hall of Fame in 2000. Stanley Morgan played 13 years for the New England Patriots.
Dal Shealy was born on August 1, 1938, and he attended high school in Batesburg, South Carolina. Shealy was a three sport athlete in high school and earned four varsity letters in each sport. He attended and played football for Carson-Newman College, and he eventually went on to serve his country in the Marines, where he continued playing football. After he left the military, Shealy began his coaching career. He went on to earn Coach of the Year in both 1971 and 1972 and took Carson-Newman to the NAIA championship in 1972. He helped reinstate the football programs at Mars Hill and Carson-Newman and was later the head coach with the University of Richmond. He also served as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Baylor, Tennessee, Auburn, and Iowa State. Dal was a pioneer in coaching and football his entire career even developing some of the concepts and techniques now used in the popular spread offense. In 1989 Dal Shealy joined the FCA in its infancy and helped establish the organization as an international juggernaut. He served as President from 1992 until 2005. Accompanying his long list of accomplishments is Mr. Shealy’s literary success. He has written several books about playing football and coaching. Dal currently lives in Clemson, South Carolina with his wife Barbara, and they have been married over 55 years.
