Vols Make Angel Tree Donation
December 03, 2016 | Baseball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee baseball’s annual holiday party was highlighted by each member of the 2017 squad bringing a gift for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
“This year, we did something different,” said Head Coach Dave Serrano. “In the past, we’ve had kind of a gag gift exchange that we’ve done amongst our team members and staff. This year, we did something different. Each player bought a gift for a boy or girl that we are donating to the Angel Tree and Salvation Army.”
The Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors. In the Knoxville area this year, over 1,800 applicants signed up.
Found in local companies and corporations, Angel Trees are decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child in need of presents. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags.
“We thought we’d come together as a team and hopefully change a young child’s Christmas,” said right-handed pitcher Eric Freeman.
