Dobbs Named Athlon SEC Offensive Player of Year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs was named the 2016 Athlon SEC Offensive Player of the Year and he, Derek Barnett, Alvin Kamara, Josh Malone and Evan Berry earned All-SEC honors, as announced by Athlon on Monday.
Dobbs and Barnett were named to the Athlon All-SEC First Team at quarterback and defensive end, respectively. Kamara was tabbed a Second Team all-purpose player and Berry was picked as the Second Team kick returner. Malone received Third Team honors at wide receiver.
On Monday, Dobbs accepted his invitation to play in the 68th Annual Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 28, 2017, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama.
Dobbs has received 2016 Second Team All-SEC coaches honors and 2016 AP Second Team All-SEC honors. He is the fourth Tennessee quarterback all-time to earn All-SEC coaches honors, joining Heath Shuler (1993) Peyton Manning (1995, 1996, 1997) and Tee Martin (1999). He is the seventh to earn AP All-SEC honors, joining Condredge Holloway (1973), Jeff Francis (1988), Andy Kelly (1990, 1991), Shuler (1993), Manning (1995, 1996, 1997) and Martin (1999).
Dobbs finished the regular season with 2,655 passing yards and an SEC-best 26 passing touchdowns. He also led the league in pass efficiency with a 152.6 rating. In conference games, Dobbs led the SEC with 24 total touchdowns accounted for, 17 passing touchdowns, 316.9 yards of offense per game, a 151.5 passer rating and 8.6 yards per attempt. Dobbs has also rushed for a UT-quarterback-record 713 yards and nine touchdowns on 139 carries and he owns the program's all-time career rushing mark for quarterbacks at 2,042 yards. He heads into this month's Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl with the third most yards of total offense by a single player in Tennessee history at 8,951. Dobbs also ranks fourth in UT history with 591 completions, fourth with 961 pass attempts, fifth with 6,847 passing yards and fifth with 52 passing touchdowns.
