TENNESSEE vs. ETSU
- No. 13/14 Tennessee (2-0) hits the road for its third game in the past five days, as it plays at East Tennessee State (1-0) in Johnson City, Tenn., on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
- The game will be played at the ETSU/MHSA Athletic Center, previously known as the Memorial Center or Mini-Dome.
- Until 2014, the venue hosted the ETSU women's and men's basketball teams.
- The Buccaneer women usually play their games in Brooks Gym, but with a bigger crowd expected ETSU opted to host the event in a larger facility on campus.
- The Lady Vols will try to open a campaign 3-0 for the fourth straight season under Holly Warlick.
- UT is beginning its season with four road games out of its first five scheduled contests, beginning with the season opener at James Madison on Nov. 11 and one of only two November home games on Nov. 13 vs. Navy.
- Following tonight's tilt, the Lady Vols will head to Happy Valley to take on Penn State at 5 p.m. on Sunday (Big Ten Network) and close out the road trip at 2 p.m. on Nov. 27 at Virginia Tech.

LADY VOLS OPEN 2-0
- Tennessee is coming off an 85-55 home victory over Navy (0-2) on Sunday afternoon.
- Alexa Middleton drained six of her seven three-point attempts vs. the Midshipmen to finish with a game-high and career-best 21 points.
- Mercedes Russell added a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards, while Diamond DeShields and Jordan Reynolds chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
- Tennessee recorded its 17th consecutive victory in a home season debut.
- The Lady Vols are now 40-3 in home season debuts since 1974, including 5-0 under the direction of head coach Holly Warlick.
- Two nights earlier, on Friday night, UT opened its campaign with an 81-69 triumph at perennial NCAA Tournament team James Madison.
- Jaime Nared tallied 19 points, and Alexa Middleton (18), Mercedes Russell (17) and Diamond DeShields (10) also reached double figures as the Lady Vols prevailed on the road.
- Tennessee improved to 39-4 in season openers with the win over JMU.
- The Lady Vols are 4-1 in season openers under Warlick and improved to 7-1 all-time in season openers taking place on the road.
- Tennessee's 81 points at JMU on Friday night were the most scored by a Lady Vol team in the first road game of a season since 2007 (82-70 vs. UCLA on Dec. 19).
A LOOK AT TENNESSEE
- Tennessee enters Tuesday night's match-up with four players averaging in double figures after two games, including Alexa Middleton (19.5), Mercedes Russell (17.5), Jaime Nared (12.5) and Diamond DeShields (12.0).
- Russell is averaging a double-double on the boards, pulling down 10.5 rebounds per game.
- Russell had more double-doubles (11) as a sophomore than any Lady Vols except for Chamique Holdsclaw (21), Candace Parker (16) and Mary Ostrowski (11). She already has upped her total to 13 with double-doubles in each game this year.
- The Lady Vols return eight players from last season's NCAA Elite Eight squad and have three newcomers for a roster of 11. Nine of those players will see action this season, while two (Te'a Cooper and Cheridene Green) redshirt due to injury.
- Last year's unit finished 22-14 overall and 8-8 in SEC play (t7th) but rallied to earn the program's third NCAA Elite Eight berth in the past four seasons.
- Tennessee has been picked to finish third in the SEC by both the media and the league's coaches, following defending champ South Carolina and 2015-16 runner-up Mississippi State.
- Diamond DeShields (first team) and Mercedes Russell (second team) were named to the 2016-17 Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team.
- DeShields also made the five-player Media Preseason All-SEC Team.
- After ending last season unranked in the AP Poll and 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Lady Vols opened ranked 13th and 14th, respectively.
- In other polls, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association had UT 12th; AP, Sporting News and Athlon Sports had UT ranked 13th; the Lady Vols were 14th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and the espnW Poll (t14); and Lindy's had the Lady Vols at No. 16.
A GLANCE AT THE BUCCANEERS
- ETSU returns eight letterwinners, including four starters from a squad that finished 16-14 overall and 8-6 (4th) in the Southern Conference.
- The Buccaneers are coached by Alabama grad Brittney Ezell, who is 47-47 in her fourth season in Johnson City and 167-160 in her 12th season overall.
- Leading scorer Tianna Tarter, a 5-foot-6 junior guard is back after pacing the Bucs with a 17.0 scoring average in 2015-16.
- Shamauria Bridges, a 5-7 senior guard, also returns after averaging 15.2 points per game and hitting 76 three-pointers a year ago.
- Tarter (24) and Bridges (23) combined for 47 of ETSU's 68 points in the season-opening win at Butler on Friday night.
- Tarter was 6-of-18 from the field and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe, while Bridges hit 8-of-14 field goals (4-of-9 3FG) and 3-of-5 free throws.
- Forward Malloree Schurr, a 5-10 junior, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
- Trailing 41-39 entering the fourth quarter, ETSU rode a 29-18 final stanza scoring margin to victory.
UT-ETSU SERIES NOTES
- Tennessee leads the series, 19-2-1.
- UT's records include games played in 1924 (ETSU, 22-16 in Knoxville), 1925 (25-all in Johnson City) and 1926 (UT, 50-16 in Knoxville), when the orange-clad players were called Volettes.
- After losing 62-56 in Johnson City on Feb. 12, 1971, the Lady Vols have won 17 in a row.
- The Lady Vols have a 5-1-1 record when playing at ETSU, winning their past five games there.
- These teams last met on Dec. 2, 2015, with #8/8 UT taking an 85-49 victory in Knoxville.
- The Lady Vols have reached the 100-point plateau three times vs. ETSU, doing so in 2010 (102) and twice in 1977 (100, 102) with Holly Warlick playing in those later two games.
- East Tennessee State is back in the Southern Conference for the second season after being in the Atlantic Sun from 2005-06 to 2013-14.
- The Lady Vols are 60-20-1 all-time vs. schools from the SoCon. Tennessee defeated ETSU on Dec. 2, 2015, in the last game with a school from that league.
