Tennessee Tidbits
- Tennessee moves to an all-time record of 825-374-53, which stood in ninth place (in terms of win percentage) among FBS programs entering Saturday's game.
- Butch Jones is now 26-20 in his fourth year at Tennessee and is 76-47 in his 10th season overall.

Vol Captains/Coin Toss
- Head coach Butch Jones announced Tennessee's full-season captains at halftime of the 2016 DISH Orange & White Game. The appointed leaders are senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs, redshirt junior tailback Alvin Kamara, senior defensive back Cameron Sutton and senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
- The Vols have not had full-season designees since 2011, with captains named on a game-by-game basis from 2012-15.
- Tennessee won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.
- Tennessee is now 4-6 in coin tosses this season, include 4-4 pregame and 0-2 in overtime.
Vols-Gamecocks Series Notes
- After 35 meetings, the Volunteers continues to lead the all-time series, 25-8-2, dating back to 1903.
- Tennessee now stands at 9-6-2 vs. the Gamecocks in Columbia.
- The Gamecocks snapped a three-game win streak by the Vols and took their first victory over Tennessee since 2012, when the Gamecocks captured a three-point, 38-35 win in Columbia.
- UT is 3-1 against South Carolina under the direction of Butch Jones with all four contests having been decided by three points or less.
Tennessee Lineup News
- Junior Evan Berry made his second career start for the Vols at safety.
- Sophomore Darrin Kirkland Jr. made his first start at middle linebacker since suffering a high ankle sprain on Sept. 10 vs. Virginia Tech. With his start, fellow linebacker Colton Jumper moved over and made his first season start at the weak-side linebacker position.
- Sophomore Shy Tuttle made his first career start at defensive tackle in place of Kahlil McKenzie.
- Redshirt junior Jason Croom made his first solo start of the season at tight end, having also started previously as part of a two tight end offense on Sept. 24 vs. Florida.
Offensive Highlights
- Quarterback Joshua Dobbs finished the evening 12-for-26 with 161 yards passing and one passing touchdown. With 12 completions, he moved into fifth place in school history for career completions with 522, surpassing Andy Kelly (514).
- Jalen Hurd rushed for a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter and with 16 rushing yards in the first half, moved past Cedric Houston (2.634 from 2001-04) for sixth place on UT's all-time rushing list with 2,638.
- Running back John Kelly led the Vols' in rushing with 94 yards rushing on 14 carries, including a career-long 34-yard run in the fourth quarter.
- With seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Dobbs connected with receiver Jauan Jennings for a six-yard touchdown pass and helped narrow the Vols' deficit to a three-point Gamecocks lead.
- Tennessee now has scored in 280 straight games, which stood as the fourth-longest active streak in the NCAA entering the game against South Carolina.
- UT furthered its streak to 23 consecutive games with a rushing TD, dating to 2014. The streak now stands as the second-longest active streak in FBS, trailing on Alabama (28) entering Saturday's contest. Tennessee's all-time record for most consecutive games with a rushing score is 24, established during the 1937-39 seasons.
Defensively Speaking
- Junior defensive end Derek Barnett was credited with 3.0 huge sacks on Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley, furthering his season total to 9.0 and his career total to 29.0.
- With 29.0 career sacks, Barnett moved past VFL Leonard Little (1995-97) for sole possession of second place on the all-time sacks list at Tennessee. He now chases Reggie White (32, 1980-83) for the most career sacks in school history.
- With the sack against Bentley, Barnett now has seven career sacks against South Carolina, having also recorded 13 total tackles, 5.0 TFLs and 4.0 sacks over his previous two games since 2014.
- Safety Todd Kelly Jr. recorded his first career sack for a loss of seven yards in the second quarter.
- Defensive end Corey Vereen and defensive tackle Kendal Vickers each added a sack on South Carolina's Bentley in the second half.
- Cumulatively, Tennessee's defense recorded 6.0 sacks on South Carolina's quarterback, a season high for the Volunteers.
- In his first game action since Sept. 10 vs. Virginia Tech, linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. tallied a team-best eight tackles, including five solo tackles.
Special Teams
- With his 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter, Evan Berry tied Willie Gault (4, 1979-82) for the most kickoff return touchdowns in school history. The return marked Berry's first special teams touchdown on the season and the fourth kickoff return touchdown of his career.
- Along with Berry, freshman Marquill Osborne shared kickoff return duties against South Carolina.
- Aaron Medley missed his 58-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter and now stands six-of-nine this season and 47-of-66 for his career. The 58-yard attempt marked the longest of his Tennessee career.
- Aaron Medley was two-of-two on PATs against South Carolina. He is now 126-of-127 for his career.
- Trevor Daniel averaged 49.0 yards on six punts, booming three of 50-or-more yards. He now has 35 punts of 50-or-more yards, including a career-long 70-yarder in the second quarter against the Gamecocks.

- Originally called a touchback following a Trevor Daniel 70-yard punt, the ruling on the field was confirmed following official review.
- Ruled a complete pass from Joshua Dobbs to Jauan Jennings for 26 yards in the third quarter, the ruling on the field was reversed to an incomplete pass.
- Originally ruled targeting by South Carolina's D.J. Smith following a Jauan Jennings 25-yard reception in the fourth quarter, the ruling was upheld and Tennessee took the ball on its own 48-yard line.
