October 22, 2016 | Rowing
OAK RIDGE, TENN - Tennessee Rowing sent six boats to the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge on Saturday, competing in the Women's 8+ and Women's Novice 8+.
In the Women's 8+ the Volunteers took first, second and fourth out of seven teams competing. Junior Iman Woodyard guided the Volunteers' First Varsity Eight crew of Mikayla Dutton, Chandler Frumin, Anna Irving, Channing Bearden, Rebecca Caruso, Helana Jordan, Nicole Burnett, and Katherine Pearson to a winning time of 18:02.3.
In the Women's Novice 8+, the Volunteers took first, fourth and sixth. This was the first race Tennessee's novice rowers have competed in since joining the team last month.
"It is beneficial and exciting to be in a race environment to put together another solid week of training. Secret City was the next step for each crew to build from within and strengthen the entire team," said assistant coach Sarah Arms.
The First Varsity Four will compete tomorrow in the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass. Tennessee will then prepare for the Head of the Hooch, their final race of the fall, in Chattanooga on Nov. 5.
