October 20, 2016 | Rowing
Tennessee Rowing opens its fall season this weekend, sending six boats to the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Saturday and one to the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. on Sunday.
The novice team will make its debut on the water with three boats entering the Women's Novice 8+ beginning at 11:10 AM on Saturday in Oak Ridge.
At 1:10 PM three varsity boats will compete in the Women's 8+.
On Sunday, the Varsity 4+ will compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest rowing event in the country. Tennessee will be competing against 19 other teams in the Women's Championship Fours. Their start time is set for 2:02 PM.
The Head of the Charles is a three-mile head race upstream from Boston University Boathouse to Christian Herter Park. Each race has a rolling start and the team with the fastest time wins. Last year Tennessee finished ninth in this competition.
