Vols Shut Out Mocs and Lady Bisons

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Volunteers (4-1) continued their dominant weekend run on Sunday with wins over Lipscomb and Chattanooga at McCallie High School.
UT began the day by getting its third shutout in row after sweeping Lipscomb 7-0. Freshman Sadie Hammond and junior Eve Repic earned a 6-2 victory over the duo of Kromer and Kent on court 1.
Freshmen Kim Kermet and Mary Caroline Meredith picked up a 6-4 win against Gamage and Victorsson. Senior Tiffany Tavares and junior Ashlee Boles won their second match together on the season following a win over Evans and Djuknic, 6-4.
In singles, Tennessee swept the Bison, winning every set in all six matches, with the closest match being between Meredith and Laura Kent on court 3. Kent forced a tiebreaker in the first set, but Meredith held on to win the tiebreaker and match, 7-6 (4), 6-1.
In its second match of the day, UT breezed past Chattanooga, 4-0, for its fourth consecutive shutout, the longest streak since 1982 when the Vols had five.
In doubles, Tavares and junior Brittany Lindl beat the duo of Patton and Edwards, 6-2, on court 3. Repic and Hammond clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Jones and Coots on court 1.
The Vols picked up wins on courts 4, 5 and 6 in singles to take the match. Tavares clinched it with a victory over Sydney Patton, 6-4, 6-3.
Tennessee will have next weekend off before hosting No. 24 Georgia Tech in Knoxville at Goodfriend Tennis Center on Friday Feb. 12, at 2 p.m.
