VFLs Punch Ticket To Super Bowl 50

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- For the 24th time in 25 years, a VFL will play in the Super Bowl. With the Denver Broncos' 20-18 win over the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, VFLs Peyton Manning, Malik Jackson and Britton Colquitt will take on the Carolina Panthers and their VFL Chris Scott. Super Bowl 50 is set for Feb. 7 at Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, Calif.
With four players in the Super Bowl, only Ohio State (5) has more than Tennessee.
For the seventh-consecutive year, Tennessee will have at least two VFLs in the Super Bowl. In each of those seven years, a VFL has been on each team in the game. In the first 49 Super Bowls, 41 times a VFL has been part of the winning team. There will be at least a 42nd in 2016.
Manning will play in the Super Bowl for the fourth time in his career, having previously led the 2006 and 2009 Indianapolis Colts and the 2013 Denver Broncos to the NFL's championship game. Jackson and Colquitt are making their second trips to the Super Bowl as they were on the 2013 Broncos team that played in the big game.
Scott will be making his second Super Bowl appearance as he was part of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl XLV team in 2011.
