Tennessee and Oklahoma will square off for the fourth time ever. The Sooners lead the series, 2-1, and won last year's game in Norman, 34-10. OU and UT met twice in the Orange Bowl with the Sooners winning in 1967 by a score of 26-24 and the Vols winning in South Florida in 1939, 17-0.
The Vols are 94-18-5 (.825) all-time in home openers with 20 consecutive wins in home openers since 1995. No opposing team has scored more than 19 points in each of the last 20 home openers.
Vols' Big Debut In Nashville
Tennessee defeated Bowling Green, 59-30, on Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The Vols had 399 rushing yards, the most rushing yards for UT since 406 vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 26, 1994.
Jalen Hurd (123 yards, three TD) and Alvin Kamara (144 yards, two TD) combined for 267 yards and five TDs and Kamara's 144 rushing yards were the most ever by a player making his Tennessee debut.
The Vols' 59 points in the opener were the most since a 63-7 win over Western Kentucky on Sept. 5, 2009.
#RankedVols
If the Vols and Sooners remain ranked this week, it will mark Tennessee's first non-conference game at home with two ranked teams since the 2006 opener, as No. 23 UT beat No. 9 Cal, 35-18 on Sept. 2, 2006.
The last game at Neyland between ranked teams was on Sept. 15, 2012, when No. 18 Florida beat No. 23 Tennessee, 37-20.
New Kids On The Block
Tennessee played 15 true freshmen in the opener vs. Bowling Green, tied for the second-highest figure in the country during week one. Only Georgia (19) and Army West Point (17) played more freshmen.
Freshman wide receiver Jauan Jennings was the only true freshman to start for the Vols in Nashville. A product of Murfreesboro, Jennings made his first career catch on the team's second offensive play
