POSTGAME NOTES
Tennessee Tidbits
- Tennessee was defeated by the Florida Gators, 28-27, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
- In its 119th season of football, UT's all-time record stands at 813-369-53.
- UT now stands at 19-26 in 45 all-time meetings against Florida, including a 5-13 mark in games played in Gainesville, Fla.
- With the loss, Florida extended its win streak to 11 games dating back to 2005. UT last defeated UF 30-28 at home in 2004. The Vols' last win over Florida in Gainesville was a 24-10 victory in 2003.
- UT has improved its streak to 264 consecutive games with a score dating back to Sept. 17, 1994. It's the fourth-longest active streak in FBS, 10th-longest in history.
- Butch Jones is 64-42 overall and 14-15 as head coach of the Vols.
Tennessee Captains
- Serving as captains for Tennessee today were Joshua Dobbs, Brian Randolph and Curt Maggitt.
- Tennessee won coin the toss and deferred to the second half for the third straight game.
- The Vols are now 3-1 on coin tosses this season, and have kicked off in their first four games this season.
For Starters
- Senior DB LaDarrell McNeil started against Florida, after missing the first two games of the season due to injury. With his start against the Gators, McNeil has now started 32 of 34 career games for the Orange and White.
- Redshirt junior LaTroy Lewis picked up his third career start at defensive end and his second in a row (also, vs. Western Carolina).
Offense
- With 254 total team rushing yards, the Vols rushed for the most yards against Florida in the Modern Era.
- Three different players completed passes to receivers for the Vols against Florida, including Joshua Dobbs, Jauan Jennings and Alvin Kamara.
- The last game where UT had three different passers record completions dates back to 10/16/04 vs. Ole Miss (Erik Ainge, Brent Schaffer, Dustin Colquitt).
- Freshman Jauan Jennings recorded his first TD pass as a Vol, connecting with Joshua Dobbs for a 58-yard completion. The TD also marked Dobbs' first career TD reception.
- With his 58-yard TD reception in the first quarter, Dobbs became the first Tennessee QB to catch a pass since Peyton Manning did so against Arkansas (10-yard reception) on 11/15/97.
- Following the handoff from Dobbs, Alvin Kamara completed a 24-yard pass to TE Ethan Wolf in the second quarter. The pass marked the first of Kamara's career at UT and the first of the game for Wolf.
- Dobbs was Tennessee's leading rusher against the Gators, rushing for 136 yards on 18 carries. His 100+ yard rushing game is the first by a Vol against Florida since Travis Stephens in 2001.
- Jalen Hurd rushed for a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter and a 10-yard rushing TD in the fourth quarter. He now has scored at least one touchdown in his last five games and has had multiple TD games in four of his last five contests.
- Tennessee completed passes to eight different receivers against the Gators.
- Dobbs finished the game 10-of-17 for 83 passing yards.
- UT is now 7-3 in Joshua Dobbs' last 10 starts.
- Jalen Hurd entered the game with three 100-yard games. Against Florida, Hurd had 102 yards on 28 attempts.
- After going 1-for-7 on third down conversions in the first half, Tennessee rebounded to go 6-for-9 in the second half, including a 5-for-5 effort on their fourth-quarter scoring drive to take a 27-14 lead.
Defensively Speaking
- Tennessee's defense held the Gators to 3-of-15 on third down conversions.
- Junior Jalen Reeves-Maybin led the Vols' defense. The LB was a part of eight tackles including two solo tackles, one sack and two TFLs.
- Reeves-Maybin sacked Florida QB Will Grier for a loss of five yards in the first quarter, bringing his season total to three and career total to five.
- LaDarrell McNeil intercepted a pass from UF QB Will Grier in the second quarter, marking his second interception in as many games. The interception marked his second of the year and the fifth of his career.
- Darrin Kirkland Jr. recorded a sack on UF's QB Will Grier to begin the third quarter.
- Freshman Kyle Phillips recorded his first career sack against Florida QB Grier in the third quarter.
- UT has forced at least one turnover in 19 of its last 22 games and multiple turnovers in 16 of their last 27.
Special Teams
- Evan Berry resumed kickoff return duty against Florida, including a 35-yard return in the third quarter.
- Junior Cameron Sutton returned three punts for 21 yards. Alvin Kamara split time with Sutton as punt returner against the Gators in the second half, returning one punt for 22 yards.
- Entering the game, Tennessee led the SEC (3rd in NCAA) in kickoff return average with 39.9 yards per return.
- Aaron Medley hit 3-of-3 PATs vs. Florida. He is now 21-of-21 this season and 63-of-64 for his career.
- Redshirt sophomore punter Trevor Daniel averaged 51.3 on six punts.
- Daniel boomed two game-long, 56-yard punts, marking his 10th and 11th of 50+ yards this season.
- Daniel had two punts downed inside the 20, marking 10 times this season.
- Medley kicked a 34-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 37-yarder on the Vols' first possession of the second half. His fourth quarter, 55-yard attempt was missed. He now is 6-of-10 this season and 26-of-36 for his career.
Upon Further Review
- Tennessee challenged a nine-yard pass completion by UF's Jake McGee. The call was overturned to a seven-yard gain, where McGee stepped out of bounds on the sideline.
- In the third quarter, a fumble by Joshua Dobbs was recovered by Florida's Bryan Cox Jr. After review, Cox's knee was down upon recovering the ball for a one-yard gain, confirming the orginal ruling on the field.
