KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee volleyball head coach Rob Patrick has announced the hiring of Jen Malcom as assistant coach, effective immediately. Malcom arrives on Rocky Top following a four-year stint in the same position at Virginia Tech.
"I'm excited to add Jen to our staff," said Patrick. "She is one of the young rising coaches in our profession and we are blessed to have her join our program. Due to Jen's experiences as a player and coach, she will be able to relate and teach the game at a very high level to our players. She will bring an energy to the gym that will complement our current coaching staff."
Malcom had served as an assistant coach at VT since the 2011 season, helping the Hokies to a 73-53 record over her four seasons in Blacksburg. That mark includes a 22-12 mark in 2013--her third year with the program. During that time, Malcom worked with three AVCA All-America honorable mentions in middle blockers Cara Baarendse, Kathryn Caine and Victoria Hamsher.
A middle blocker in college, Malcom's collegiate career began in 2004 at Syracuse. She played two seasons for the Orange before transferring home to Iowa State. The Schaller, Iowa, native helped the Cyclones to two NCAA Tournament berths during her time in Ames and earned a handful of individual accolades. Malcom was named a Strength and Conditioning All-American, an AVCA All-Central Region selection, and All-Big 12 honorable mention. She graduated from ISU as the Cyclones' all-time record holder in three hitting percentage categories: career (.318), season (.343), and single match (.789).
Following her graduation from ISU with a degree in Kinesiology, Malcom joined the volleyball staff at Arkansas State as a graduate assistant. She remained in Jonesboro for one season, earning a master's degree in Sports Administration before being hired by VT.
Malcom also has coaching experience at the club level, having spent time with IPVA in Des Moines, Iowa.
