WACO, Texas -- The senior duo of Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams learned who their first opponent of the NCAA Doubles Championships will be for their match Thursday at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center, after receiving an at-large bid to the tournament.
The team will face off against Stanford's Caroline Doyle and Ellen Tsay. It will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Doyle and Tsay took the first match, 6-3, in the semifinals of Freeman Memorial Championships hosted by UNLV in January.
This will be the first appearance in the individual championships for both seniors, who are currently ranked as the No. 22 doubles team in the country, according to the latest ITA rankings. Doyle and Tsay are ranked 10th in the country.
Williams and Henderson saved their best season for last in a Tennessee uniform, going 17-4 together throughout the year.
After missing out on the doubles bracket last year, the Lady Vols will look to match previous success in the tournament. From 2009-2013, Tennessee has made the semifinals or better four times, including a championship appearance by Caitlin Whoriskey and Natalie Pluskota in 2010.
The time of their match will be announced once the first day of singles is completed on Wednesday. Be sure to follow @LadyVol_Tennis on Twitter for updates and scores throughout the tournament.
