Vol Golf: 3M Augusta Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - On Saturday, the Tennessee men's golf team will tee off at the 3M Augusta Invitational, hosted by the Augusta Golf Association and played at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
Head Coach Jim Kelson will start junior Chad Merzbacher, sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara, sophomore Jack Smith, freshman Lorenzo Scalise and junior Michael Nagy.
The Volunteers make their way to Augusta after tying for 11th place at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. The Vols will be led by Scalise and Merzbacher. Scalise was the highest finisher for the squad, posting a 27th place finish at 3-over par. Merzbacher posted his lowest finish of the season (T-68, +20), but will look to bounce back to the consistent play he has provided for the Vols all season.
The loaded 3M Augusta Invitational field includes eight top-50 teams from the latest GolfStat rankings (April 1), including second ranked Texas and fifth ranked Illinois. This marks the 37th edition of the tournament, and the 34th year at Forest Hills. Central Florida edged out Texas by one shot to capture the 2014 title at 18-under par. Central Florida's Greg Eason was crowned the individual champion after posting scores of 66-71-68 to finish 11-under par. Tennessee last won the event during the 2002 season, while VFL David Skinns captured the individual title. VFL Stuart Smith also claimed the 1981 individual crown.
The format will consist of five-man teams, with the best four scores counting toward the daily total. The tournament will begin on a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (ET) Saturday morning, with Tennessee going off holes 11-14. Play will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. Sunday's pairings and times will be released Saturday night.
