Women's Tennis Loses 4-3 in Opening Round

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The 13th seeded Tennessee Lady Vols (11-15, 3-11) fell to the 12th seeded Auburn Tigers (16-12, 4-10) on Wednesday in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at the Carolina Tennis Complex.
In doubles, Auburn's Reka Muller and Jen Pfeifler bested junior Tiffany Tavares and sophomore Victoria Olivarez 8-2 on court 3 to start things off. Then, the sophomore duo of Eve Repic and Laurence Guevremont fell to Paula de Man and Michala Kucharova 8-4 on court 2, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers.
Seniors Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams were tied at 6-6 on court 1 with Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger, who make up the No. 6 ranked doubles team in the country.
In singles, Repic quickly brought Tennessee even with the Tigers, defeating Emily Flickinger 6-1, 7-6 (5) on court 2. Pleun Burgmans then came from behind to beat Henderson 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 on court 1.
Olivarez responded by tying things up again between the two teams, as she came out victorious over Reka Muller 7-6 (3), 7-5 on court 4. Williams outlasted Andie Dikosavljevic 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 on court 3, giving Tennessee a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers made the final push, though, as Tavares fell to Paula de Man 6-3, 6-4, and sophomore Ashlee Boles lost to Jen Peifler 6-2, 6-0, securing the win for Auburn and a spot in the second round against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
