April 01, 2015 | Women's Basketball
CHICAGO -- Tennessee women's basketball signee Te'a Cooper put on a show at the 2015 McDonald's All-American Game at the United Center Wednesday night.
A 5-foot-8 point guard from Powder Springs, Ga. (McEachern H.S.), Cooper scored 21 points for the West to lead all scorers and earned co-MVP honors along with the East's Marina Mabrey (Notre Dame signee), who scored 12 points to lead the East to an 89-87 victory.
With Wednesday night's honor, Tennessee now has had a record five MVPs at the McDonald's All-American Game, with Cooper following in the footsteps of Shanna Zolman (2002), Alexis Hornbuckle (2004), Meighan Simmons (2010) and Mercedes Russell (2013).
Cooper, who connected on eight-of-14 shots, including three-of-six from the three-point line for the evening, scored 19 of her points in the first half. Her finally tally of 21 was two shy of the McDonald's game record.
In addition to her scoring effort, Cooper added three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 27 minutes. She also was charged with nine turnovers.
Cooper and fellow signee MeMe Jackson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., (Blackman H.S.) are expected to join the Lady Vols this summer.
