Lady Vols Finish In Fourth Place

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Tennessee women's golf notched its fifth top-10 finish this year. After starting in ninth place, the Lady Vols finished the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in fourth place with a team score of 889.
With the fourth place finish, the Lady Vols defeated nine top-25 ranked teams. Duke earned the win with a team total of 858. LSU and Southern California rounded out the top-three.
"This was a really solid tournament for us," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Although we have finished higher this season, this definitely was our best tournament. We beat some really good teams this week. Everyone on the team contributed and really competed well."
Lucia Polo shot her best round of the tournament to lead the Lady Vols in the final round with a score of 71 (E). AJ Newell shot her second consecutive score of 73 (+2). Hannah Pietila bounced back to earn a counting score of 75 (+4). Anna Newell shot a 76 for the finale.
"Lucia and AJ turned in nice scores today," Pavon said. "Anna had a good tournament, and Hannah bounced back today with a good round to finish off the event."
Three Lady Vols finished in the top-25, including Anna Newell who tied for 16th place. AJ Newell and Polo both tied for 23rd place.
The Lady Vols will be back in action on March 23 for the SDSU Farms Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
