King, Darden To Be Recognized Sat. At TBA
March 05, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Tickets remain available by calling 1-800-332-8657 or visiting www.UTtix.com. Tipoff is set for 4:05 p.m., but fans are encouraged to arrive early as the Volunteers honor this year's seniors during a pregame ceremony that is set to begin at 3:40 p.m.
King and Darden each will be recognized on the court during halftime Saturday.
Having starred as a Vol for three seasons before turning pro, King remains arguably the greatest player ever to take the court for Tennessee--as well as one the most talented players in SEC history.
King is the Vols' lone representative in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Saturday will mark the first official on-campus recognition of his 2013 HOF induction.
At 6-7, 205 pounds, King was a three-time first-team All-American, earning consensus All-American acclaim as a junior in 1976-77. He also was a three-time SEC Player of the Year.
With King leading the way, Tennessee captured the 1977 SEC Championship with a 16-2 record in league play and a 22-6 mark overall.
Darden also was a key member of that 1977 squad, as well as UT's 1979 SEC Tournament Championship team.
He is representing Tennessee at next week's SEC Tournament in Nashville as the school's 2015 SEC Basketball Legend.
Darden owns the school record for career assists with 715. His career average of 6.56 assists per game ranks second in program history.
He led the Vols in assists during each of his four seasons at Tennessee, and he was a third-team All-SEC selection in both 1977 and 1978.
Several other basketball #VFL also are expected to be on hand Saturday as Tennessee looks to close out the regular season with a victory and extend its active win streak over the Gamecocks to 16 games.
