Lady Vols Tennis Rallies for Win at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Tennessee Lady Vols (10-11, 2-7) found their way into the win column for the second straight match, upsetting the No. 46 Arkansas Razorbacks 4-2 at Billingsley Tennis Center.
"It's great to have two SEC victories," Tennessee head coach Mike Patrick said. "We fought extremely hard and to win two tiebreakers to clinch the match against Arkansas shows great resiliency. Everyone fought hard and we came together as a team. We are looking forward to playing at home next weekend and hope to build off the momentum of this weekend."
The Razorbacks put the pressure on the Volunteers early as they quickly took the doubles point. The duo of junior Tiffany Tavares and sophomore Victoria Olivarez fell 8-4 to Sasha Shkorupeieva and Flavia Araujo. Arkansas clinched the point when Yuliya Lysa and Shannon Hudson upset the senior duo of Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams, who are ranked No. 45 in the country.
In singles, Tennessee charged back to tie things up. Henderson was the first to finish as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court 1 over Yuliya Lysa. Olivarez was the next to finish. She defeated Flavia Araujo 6-1, 7-5 on court 5 to give Tennessee the lead at 2-1.
The Razorbacks weren't ready to give up at home, though. Sasha Shkorupeieva tied things back up as she beat sophomore Laurence Guevremont 7-6, 6-2 on court 4.
The Lady Vols answered with a final push of their own, taking courts 2 and 6. Tavares held off Mia Jurasic to win 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (6). It was sophomore Eve Repic who finished the Razorbacks off, coming from behind and winning two consecutive tiebreakers at 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 over Makenzie Craft to seal the victory for the Lady Vols.
Tennessee will be back in action next weekend as the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels come to Barksdale Stadium for the final home weekend for the Lady Vols this season.
