Vol Golf: Valspar Collegiate Day One

First and Second Round Stats
PALM CITY, Fla. -- The 2015 Valspar Collegiate's second round was hit with a short lightning delay as the Tennessee men's golf team finished the first two rounds 26-over par, placing them in 12th place heading to the final round.
After posting strong performances the past two tournaments, the Vols got off to a slow start on day one at the 2015 Valspar Collegiate. The squad shot a 14-over par 298 during round one, and followed it up with a 12-over par 296 during the second round.
Freshman Lorenzo Scalise's first round 71 (E) was the Vols' opening round low score. Scalise's first round included five birdies and five bogeys. He followed it up with a second round 73 (+2) to finish day one 2-over par and in a tie for 25th place.
Sophomore Jack Smith and junior Michael Nagy both finished the first day 8-over par and in a tie for 49th place. Smith's day included a first round 74 (+3) and a second round 76 (+5) which was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 6th hole. Nagy posted a 9-over par 80 during round one, and followed it up with a 1-under par 70, the lowest score of the day for the Vols.
Sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara posted 77-76--153 to find himself in a tie for 59th place at 11-over par. The Vols consistent leader, Chad Merzbacher, struggled on day one at the Floridian. Merzbacher posted scores of 77 (+6) and 80 (+9) to sit in 70th place heading to the final round. The 95th ranked Merzbacher recently broke into the top-100 individuals in the country and will look to bounce back to lead the Vols on Tuesday morning as he goes off the 10th tee at 9:42 a.m. (ET) alongside Houston and Kent State.
LSU posted scores of 273-280--553 (-15) on day one to climb to the top of the team leaderboard by one stroke heading to Tuesday's final round. Greg Yates of Texas A&M carded 67-67--134 (-8) to put himself on top of the individual leaderboard.
